BISTRO 63 MURAL REVITALIZATION
It’s always the “simplest” projects that surprise me the most. At the tail end of the 2025 mural season, I had the chance to work on a placemaking project in the heart of downtown Amherst, MA. The challenge was to reimagine a wall that had become home to some very loved and very worn street art.
MURAL REVITALIZATION
When I take on revitalization projects, I always try to connect with the original artists—but in this case, that wasn’t possible. So I approached the work with three simple goals:
1. Amplify the existing art I refreshed fading pieces with new layers of paint and reimagined sections that had weathered over time, while keeping the original spirit intact.
2. Create cohesion I pulled from the existing color palette to bring all the disparate elements together, focusing on movement and simplicity.
3. Stay true to my style + reflect the character of the venue I went with a funkadelic 70s vibe to match the venue’s queer and BIPOC affirming, inclusive dance energy.
